Every good cook has a good cookbook. I probably have a number of good ones. BUT I do have one very special cookbook, "Cooking at the Café" written by Francie O'Shea.

Herstory

I wrote "Cooking at the Cafe" cookbook during my career as Chef and Owner of Cafe Croissant. Cafe Croissant was a coffee house/bakery/restaurant and was well loved in our University town of Corvallis, Oregon.  The cookbook is a favorite by everyone who has it- I continually get very positive feedback that 1) it's the cookbook they ALWAYS use and 2) the recipes are easy to follow AND delicious!  This  makes me feel good!  It has 185 pages and more than over 70 recipes.  All recipes are dishes we served daily at Cafe Croissant.  Many of the recipes are VEGETARIAN but there are recipes for people who eat meat as well.

I started Cafe Croissant as a home bakery  delivery business called Dial-A-Croissant  in 1983 with a  original investment  of $500.   By the time I sold it 10 years later had grown it into a healthy successful business with several dozen employees open 7 days a week ! .I wrote "Cooking at the Cafe" the year before I sold the Cafe and  self published it in 1993 with a first printing of 500. (I had a technical problems with that printing- the binding glue seems to self-destruct after about 6 or 7 years! The new issues are professionally done by Cascade Printing and guaranteed to last! If you have a first issue that has fallen apart please email me and I'll send you a new copy- for FREE!)  I am now on the 3rd printing of 5,000 each. And they are still selling strong!

The Cafe has quite a story to it- how it was started and what it became- which is all included in the cookbook under "A Herstory". Anyone out there with that Entrepreneurial gleam in your eye, and especially those who have dreamt of starting a restaurant,  will enjoy- and maybe learn from- this chapter!
